Music for Peace: Akiko’s Piano 2

Hi, IF friends.

Did you remember Akiko’s piano?

Akiko was born in U.S. in 1926. When she and her family returned to Japan, they brought back a piano with them. Akiko loved playing on the piano ― until she died died due to radiation on August 7, 1945.

The piano also damaged badly, but it was restored after the war and now it is a symbol of “Music for Peace.”

Broadcasting club in Ushita junior high school, Hiroshima Prefecture,  made a documentary short film “The piano that loved Chopin” and it won the 1st prize at the 2017 NHK Broadcasting Contest.

This film was translated into English last month to spread “Music for Peace” action all over the world.

Ms. Martha Argerich and Mr. Peter Serkin, both are the greatest pianists in this century, collaborated on this film.

You can listen to Mr. Serkin’s  beautiful tune at the end of the film.

Last week some guests from abroad visited at Ushita junior high and had a workshop  with students and the piano.
